This past week I ventured into a new to me fiber art \u2013 sculptural wet
felting.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Working with master feltmaker Annemie Koenen (Netherlands) I participated in
an online workshop where rather than needling dry fiber or wet felting flat
pieces we worked wet soapy wool (Bergschaf) with our hands like clay moulding
and shaping it into a desired shape until it was felted and smooth.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In this workshop we first created a very basic shape (a sheep) to gain a
feel and understanding of how the process worked. Once we mastered the sheep we
moved onto one of Annemie\u2019s favorites, mother earth figures.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Color, pose and embellishments were up to each student. For their arms I
chose Urdhva Hastasana (Raised Hands Pose) for both my figures but varied how
they sit . The green scuplture is practicing Vajrasana {Thunderbolt Pose} and
the magenta is in Sukhasana (Easy Pose).<\/p>\n

Annemie Koenen is a delightful teacher with an easy inviting style who
always makes me laugh. I hightly recommend her classes.<\/p>\n

EDIT\/ADD: I should have mentioned \u2013 there is absolutely NO ROLLING in this
process.<\/p>\n

Just to let you know I did follow along with the recording, but it took a while to watch it all. I loved making it all and I even had a little rock sculpture which had been broken and repaired, so I covered that in a mixture of wool, wool nepps and silk, and it looks great. I also tried a little stitching on my sheep, but I am not very good at that. Thank you for a wonderful workshop.<\/p>\n
